New mom Heidy Espaillat shared a bit about motherhood with SpearmintLOVE as she navigates the fourth trimester. Heidy says, "The 4th trimester is so hard and not everybody talk about it. If you’re a new mama, I just want to let you know that it will get better, you are strong and you got this."
Spearmint: What does a day in the life look like for you?
Heidy: As a new mom we are still adapting to our new routine but my day consists of waking up and feeding baby Alfonso and when he sleeps again for his nap, I get ready to start my day. Have breakfast and start working replying to emails and Dm's from clients for my workout programs and meal plans.
Spearmint: What is your best piece of parenting advice to new moms?
Heidy: Things might not go as planned and that's okay. Do your best with what you can and ask your family and friends for help if you need.
Spearmint: What is your best piece of advice to new moms for the labor/birth process?
Heidy: The pain that you will go through is temporary and you are a strong woman that can do anything. As soon as you have your baby, all the pain will go away. The human body is amazing.
Spearmint: What's your all-time favorite baby product?
Heidy: The Ergobaby newborn carrier has been so helpful because when baby Alfonso doesn't want to sleep in his bassinet, I just carry him and he falls asleep right away. It's a lot easier to get things done in the house while carrying him.
Spearmint: Three baby names you love but won't be using?
Heidy: Alonso, Mateo and Luca.
Spearmint: As a personal trainer, what would you recommend to moms with babies or young children wanting to make a positive change toward exercise or nutrition goals?
Heidy: I would recommend them to start small. Take small steps everyday to reach your goals. It took you 9 months to create a human so you need to be patient to get results. Try to move your body when you can, like taking the stairs, walking around your neighborhood, drinking more water, etc.
